چکیده

Abstract The Ladinian–Carnian transition in the Tethys domain was accompanied by an important environmental change representing a milestone climate evolution of Triassic. However, estimations on paleodiversity composition and paleoenvironmental conditions across this interval are scarce marine settings due to lack fossil-bearing successions. In work, refined paleontological sedimentological study has allowed us better characterize well-preserved ?Ladinian–Carnian carbonate succession South Central Pyrenees (Odèn site, Catalonia, NE Spain). Vertebrate faunas include numerous actinopterygian specimens, forming assemblage composed at least four taxa: Peltopleurus cf. P. nuptialis Lombardo, 1999, Saurichthys sp., Colobodus giganteus (Beltan, 1972), indeterminate halecomorph. Specimens belonging genus dominant; long-snouted , halecomorph, large-bodied less abundant. Tetrapod remains scarcely present assigned sauropterygians. Invertebrate bivalves ( Pseudocorbula gregaria [Münster Goldfuss, 1838]) brachiopods Lingula sp.). fossil recovered from organic-rich laminated silty mudstone layers. Sedimentological textural analyses suggest that biotas were deposited below fair-weather wave base shallow subtidal coastal settings. These environments sporadically sourced silt/clay. age Odèn basis fauna, is ?late Ladinian–middle Carnian (Middle–Late Triassic), which agreement with previously published ages based palynomorph data. integration paleontological, sedimentological, biostratigraphic data site other vertebrate-bearing localities can help constrain paleogeographical configuration impacting ecosystem diversity during late interval.

Benthic Foraminiferal Faunal Turnover Across the Cretaceous/Tertiary Boundary at Agost (Southeastern Spain): Paleoenvironmental Inferences

We studied Upper Cretaceous and Lower Paleogene benthic foraminifera from the Agost section (southeastern Spain) to infer paleobathymetrical changes and paleoenvironmental turnover across the Cretaceous/Paleogene (K/P) transition. Benthic foraminifera indicate uppermost bathyal depths at Agost during the Abathomphalus mayaroensis Biochron (from about 400 kyr before the K/P boundary) through the...

Reconstruction of the 1874 Santa Tecla’s rainstorm in Western Catalonia (NE Spain) from flood marks and historical accounts

The Santa Tecla flash flood, a very heavy event occurred in western Catalonia (NE Spain) in 1874, was reconstructed with hydraulic and hydrological modelling tools in three basins. The hydrograph obtained in a first step and the basin soil moisture information ultimately allowed the estimation of the range of the rainstorm magnitude which caused the flash flood. The reconstruction of historical...

Large-Diameter Burrows of the Triassic Ischigualasto Basin, NW Argentina: Paleoecological and Paleoenvironmental Implications

Large-diameter ichnofossils comprising three morphotypes have been identified in the Upper Triassic Ischigualasto and Los Colorados formations of northwestern Argentina. These burrows add to the global record of the early appearance of fossorial behavior during early Mesozoic time. Morphotypes 1 and 2 are characterized by a network of tunnels and shafts that can be assigned to tetrapod burrows ...

Increased eutrophication and nutrient imbalances in the agricultural soil of NE Catalonia, Spain.

The soil C, N, P and K content of agricultural soil were measured over the last 4 decades in NE Catalonia (NE Spain). Plant-available P and K increased by ca 109 and 105% respectively and total N decreased by 30%. The increases in plant-available P content are in accordance with the increasingly used pig slurry being very rich in P, and with P tendency to be retained in soils, since it is less ...
